YouTube is Sprawling. Echocast helps you find what you want to watch on it.

Three ways to find the best stuff on echocast.

There is a popular sub-Reddit that highlights how YouTube’s search results don’t match user expectations. In one example, a poster searched for Billy Idol Karaoke videos. (Hey, you like what you like). They were served up five Billy Idol karaoke videos…then the wheels came off, and YouTube started showing them karaoke videos from everyone but Billy Idol. “And this applies to literally any subject,” wrote the poster.

Now Reddit might not be the de facto source for all things, but in this case the posters highlight an increasingly common problem: You search for one specific thing on YouTube and get a few results before the algorithm takes you into unexpected search territory influenced by your previously watched videos and what others watched. You can’t blame the algorithm–it’s just doing the job it’s been programmed to do. But it didn’t meet your expectations. Maybe it pulled from the browser's history, so it analyzed not only your data, but also anyone who has used your device. Or maybe it doesn’t understand human feelings. Whatever it did, it ultimately misread your interests and intentions.

We built echocast to fix this. Our platform is specifically designed to allow people to find and follow the videos they love. Watch what you want to watch, not all the distracting stuff you don’t. And feel free to go deep on your favorite subjects–we are built for that, too, thanks to our “sifts”, a dynamic playlist that pulls in specific filtered content from multiple channels you select. The sift is one of the most compelling features of Echocast (and it’s not available on YouTube’s own platform).

Tailor to Your Taste: Food, No Nuts

Here is an example of a compelling Sift: Most recipes focus on what a recipe is named, rather than what ingredients are in it. And that’s a problem because nearly half of all Americans have at least one dietary restriction. So echocast makes life a little easier for those of you who want to filter out ingredients. (We’ve already created this first Sift that allows you to search for recipes without nuts across Bon Appétit, Epicurious, The New York Times Cooking, and the Food Network.)

Plan Your Next Vacation

Another example is from the travel space. Researching travel destinations should be as fun as the trips themselves. The problem, however, is that you often have to look across multiple sources to find what you’re really looking for, because no single source has everything. But what if one did? To help you research your next destination, restaurant, hotel, and more, we’ve created this Sift featuring some of our favorite travel guides, including Condé Nast Traveler, Travel & Leisure, Afar, and Monocle. To start, we’ve searched for the best places to spend your time and money in London–and you don’t even have to be traveling to the UK to enjoy it. Nothing wrong with watching the videos and daydreaming about your next vacation.

Listen to Deep Cuts From Your Favorite Band

Here’s one final example that knowingly goes more niche. The Dave Matthews Band is at their best playing live music, and they tour every summer. While video clips from these shows pop up on YouTube, there is no single source of truth for the best song highlights. Well, we’ve now solved this pressing issue by creating this Sift featuring 2023 song highlights from some of the best tapers in the business. What’s notable is that every Sift updates in real-time. So you no longer have to spend extra time conducting searches for the latest content. Instead, it’s served up directly to you. And you can do this for any band you follow.

We’re big fans of going down the rabbit hole, but we don’t like getting lost on the way down. That’s why we’ve built our platform to help you find and organize quality videos you care about, filter out what you’re not keen on, and save you time searching for the latest information about your favorite subjects.
